one my mom has made for years - the main idea was that If everyone followed the same recipe, each family only used 1# of meat and they could put them all together in a big pot to feed everyone at a big doing. This batch serves 4-5.

 1 Bottle Heinz Chili Sauce
1 Onion. I prefer sweet yellow, but white works also
 1 lb lean ground meat
1 tbsp vinegar (Apple Cider vinegar works well, too)
1 tbsp sugar (splenda also works)
1 package hamburger buns (basic serving method)
2 tubes crescent rolls (alternative serving method)
8 slices, american cheese (alternative serving method)
1

chip the onion into small pieces

2

brown the ground meat and onions in a skillet, then drain any grease (using 97% lean ground beef reduces the grease significantly)

3

Once the meat is browned, add chili sauce, sugar, and vinegar. Mix well.

Note that the original recipe called for 1 cup of chili sauce. It is far easier and less wasteful to simply use the whole bottle.

4

Serve on hamburger buns.

Alternate Serving method
5

line baking sheet with parchment paper

6

lay out crescent roll pieces flat on baking sheet

7

place 1/2 cheese slice on each crescent roll

8

spoon meat mixture evenly on crescent roll

9

lay second (stretched) crescent roll over the top of the meat, then pinch edges together

10

bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes, and serve
