Just another mini-project, and more Chat-GPT generated code based on my prompts. This started otu in the middle of a (slow) weather net, when i was looking for a source of weather alerts, besides the radio. I had alerts on my phone, but I wanted something I could have on my computer.
Here’s the first version I would call releasable.
This was intended to be a small wepbage that updates periodically form the National Weather Service API. It adds some icons on the top to let you know what’s currently active at a glance.
It will play a chime when a new alert is noted.

My mind ran as it normally does, and added additional features. Unfortunately, one thing I’ve kindof learned with GPT is that it will adjust things on its own – like reducing the icon set, or changing it altogether. It would seem that the best way to get a good product when “coding” this way is to develop all the features FIRST, then fine tune things like the interface, etc.
Now… i added a live radar page, and it will try to use your location to load the first data set automatically, after which you can set it for other locations. I also made it a dark theme.
GPT keeps messing with the icons – they’re not quite as cutesy as the ones above, but ALL NWS categories and watches/warnings are included now. and I changed the alert tone. The watch/warning icons are also links to the actual warning or watch.
